Over ten years ago I lived in the Green Bay area and bought some Glarciarco tip downs that were similar to this product except they had no base. These are excellent for Perch. Having a base that swivels out and is attached is a great improvement. The wire is made of a better heaver duty material then my old ones. The sensitivity adjustment - sliding the weight forward and back is also better. However, the rattle reel did not rattle so I replaced it and the sliding weight did not slide well so I put a little WD 40 on the wire and it is fine. I put eight pound yellow Stren line on the spool with a slip knot on the line to mark my depth settings. I also place a 1/4 oz barrel sinker on the Stern line and tie on a small barrel swivel. I then clip on an 18 inch 4 pound fluorocarbon leader with a small gold hook and a 3/0 split shot to the barrel swivel. The barrel sinker and split shot help balance the wire arm better and improve sensitivity. Also there are times when a fish will trip the flag and he can still run provided that you ease off on the tension setting on the rattle reel since the line will slide through the barrel swivel. Price was a touch high but materials were very good and workmanship was slightly above average. Instruction sheet would help. Highly recommend these for perch and fussy walleyes. Send Grunwald over here and we will do a video with Ted Peck and myself and I will help you write an instruction sheet.
